Portrait Unveiled 2022
Each President of the Providence Art Club is honored with a portrait that is on display and part of the permanent collection. I had the difficult decision of selecting an artist that I wanted to communicate, visually, who I am as an artist and woman.
My criteria was that the artist had to be a woman, one that I was able to connect with on a personal level. An artist whose work I admired and would be willing to take the ride of creating a somewhat unconventional portrait.
Although, there are many amazing portrait artists in Rhode Island, I decided on Natalie Featherston. A trompe l'oeil painter who uses the figure in her paintings, she typically does not do traditional portraiture.
Over the course of one year, Natalie and I met often to discuss and plan the symbols and elements that would make this portrait a reflection of who I am and what would be important to my legacy as a former President of the historic Providence Art Club.
Natalie Featherston is a master at her craft and everything that I could have dreamed of is captured in this painting.
